Summary |
The purpose of this session is to provide to
a group staff within the workplace, an introduction into basic First Aid to a
nationally acknowledged level. This is a seven hour teaching and practical
session covering a basic understanding of First Aid, and initial action as a
First Aider. |

Who this unit
is aimed at

This unit is designed to be generally
applicable for care and community care support workers. This training is also
suitable as a 3-year refresher to candidates who have previously completed a
first aid course to appointed persons level. |

Causes and treatment of
an unconscious patient ·
Cardio- pulmonary
resuscitation for adults, ·
Choking patient and the
recovery position. ·
Recognise the initial
priorities of first aid ·
Deal safely with the
unconscious patient ·
Recognise the need for
good airway management ·
Effective cardiopulmonary
resuscitation on a mannequin ·
The recovery position.

For
registered nurses who wish to incorporate this training into your PREP
portfolio’s, you should carry out practice reflection and attach subsequent
evidence from this training

Students will be expected to demonstrate
proficiency in all practical areas on both parts of the course to gain a
certificate of attendance.
Please note that as this
is a practical workshop numbers are limited to 15 staff in registration.
Summary:
A practise area must be
made available that includes space for working with a mannequin. If the floor
is not carpeted, you should ensure that a blanket is made available for the
training.
Included in the session
is theory based information that may involve a powerpoint
presentation.
The key points to
remember are:
1. The training venue
should be quiet and undisturbed.
2. Staff should not be
expected to be on duty
3. Staff attending
should remain for the entire length of the session.
Special Requirements;
As with the practice
area, this should be quiet, undisturbed and large enough to accommodate those
present.
Staff should wear practical clothing, as
they will be expected to demonstrate to the instructor the knowledge they have
gained during the course session.
Any staff
who have suffered a back injury within the last 12 months must inform
the trainer prior to the session.
N.B
Registration details are
kept by us for Seven years. It is important to register on the day. It is a
legal requirement that this session will last a minimum of 7 hours. A true or
false audit may be required.
