Summary

 

This is course carried out over 2 days and is designed to enable you to become as an adviser for risk management within your own workplace. This course is suitable to fulfil 2 days of 5 study day requirements for registered nurses laid down by the UKCC in the form of Post registration education and Practice.  

Who this unit is aimed at

 

Senior staff or managers who show ability in one or more of the following areas; Documentation skills, a genuine interest in safe practice and good organisational skills.   

Proposed Candidate Outcomes

The worker must be able to:

 

·         Complete complex manual handling risk assessments 

·         Maintain records of handling equipment within their area

·         Act as a resource for risk assessments of the workplace

    

How many candidates may attend?

This training is limited to 12 staff

 

Specific content

·         Management of Manual Handling 1992,

·         Introduction to Ergonomics, Workplace Ergonomic Profile, Principles of Safe Handling of Clients and Inanimate Loads

·         Risk Assessment, Client Assessments and Handling Care Plans

·         Presentation of Workplace Assessments for employee and client.

SC19.1      Co-ordinate the provision of services to meet individuals’ identified needs and circumstances

SC19.2      Monitor and evaluate service provision for meeting individuals’ identified needs and circumstances

Other relevant information 

1.       For registered nurses who wish to incorporate this training into your PREP portfolio’s, you should carry out practice reflection and attach subsequent evidence from this training  

  1. Certificates are issued for each candidate and are valid for a maximum of 1 year
  2. Annual one day refreshers should be undertaken to update the certificate.
  3. A candidate assessment is required to show evidence of underpinning knowledge and competence.  

 

Summary:

The course demonstrates current safe handling Techniques and allows staff present the opportunity to work and practice these under close supervision. The use of on site and available handling aids will be included. In order to do this, a practise area is made available as well as access to all on site handling aids. Included in the session is theory based information relating to Anatomy and Physiology of the back. This may involve a powerpoint presentation. The key points are:

1.   Staff should not be expected to be on duty

2.       Staff attending should remain for the entire length of the session.

3.       Staff must complete the approved coursework

 

Special Requirements;

Please note that as this workshop involves practical demonstration staff should be aware that they should  wear flat shoes and practical clothing . Any staff who have suffered a back injury within the last 12 months must inform the trainer prior to the session.  You will be required to submit a declaration prior to attending this training.  

 

N.B

Registration details are kept by us for Seven years. It is important to register on the day. It is a legal requirement that this session will last a minimum of 12 hours.
