Summary

 

The purpose of this session is to provide to a group staff within the workplace, an introduction into enabling clients to choose and consume food and drink by mouth.  The actual support required by clients will be dependent on their individual needs.  The unit also includes the monitoring of food and drink intake for clients for whom such monitoring has been specified.

Who this unit is aimed at

 

This unit is relevant to workers who provide personal care to clients in all care settings - hospital, residential, day- or foster-care or in the client’s own home. 

Proposed Candidate Outcomes

The worker must be able to:

 

  • Understand the effect of food on the body and general health
  • Understand how to make changes to supplement illness
  • Identify key minerals and nutrients required by the body
  • Understand the term malnutrition, the implications of malnutrition.
  • Understand the importance of adequate hydration.
  • Know how to provide an adequate diet, both nutritionally and practically

1.       For registered nurses who wish to incorporate this training into your PREP portfolio’s, you should carry out practice reflection and attach subsequent evidence from this training  

  1. Certificates are issued for each candidate and are valid for approximately 3 years
  2. A candidate assessment is available (Word 2000) for post training audit

Included in the session is theory based information that may involve a powerpoint presentation.

The key points to remember are:

1.   The training venue should be quiet and undisturbed.

2.   Staff should not be expected to be on duty

3.   Staff attending should remain for the entire length of the session.

 

 

N.B  Registration details are kept by us for Seven years. It is important to register on the day.
