A one-day introductory programme offering practical guidance on strategic and organisational planning in the care sector.

Who this unit is aimed at

 

This unit is relevant to Proprietors, Managers, trustees who are in decision making roles in all care settings - hospital, residential, day- or foster-care or in the client’s own home. 

Proposed Candidate Outcomes

The worker must be able to:

 

Explore the issues and concepts associated with strategic Planning

for the organisation and the need for a vision of the future as a matter

of organisational survival.  The participants will work on a draft

strategy using formal analysis tools enabling a strategic document

to be produced.  

How many candidates may attend?

No limit but the sensitive nature of this training requires small groups in order that disclosure is not affected.

Content summary

  • Consider the organisation in its environment focusing on the differing forces within the internal and external environments.
  • Reflect on the structure, culture and values of the organisation.
  • Focus on the clear understanding needed by all, of the essential nature of change as a business imperative. 
  • Considering the changes within health and social care.
  • Look at the issues directly associated with good communication with all stakeholders. 
  • Focusing on establishing and building networks, formally and informally, both within the organisation and externally and on setting boundaries as well as dealing with competition by using contingency planning.
  • Gain an insight into Risk Management as a business strategy that needs to be imbedded in the organisation.
  • Consider options for the development and growth of the organisation using the analysis data from the day.
  • Gain the agreement of the group to the draft plan. 

 

 

Other relevant information 

  1. For registered nurses who wish to incorporate this training into your PREP portfolio’s, you should carry out practice reflection and attach subsequent evidence from this training  
  2. Certificates are issued for each candidate and are valid for approximately 3 years
  3. A candidate assessment is available (Word 2000) for post training audit
  4. The training venue should be quiet and undisturbed.
  5. Staff should not be expected to be on duty
  6. Staff attending should remain for the entire length of the session.

 

N.B This session will require a 3-hour client meeting/planning session with the Chair and Manager.  The audience will need to include major stakeholders to be most effective.
